I am not a night owl
in the traditional sense.
Consider me instead
the early bird
who beacons at 3 A.M.
by the summer maple in your yard,
because he,
like so many,
could not wait a second longer for tomorrow,
and chose instead to
closely watch today die
with the sun up over the Appalachians.
After all,
if you do not pay close attention,
one day bleeds into the next,
and before long,
fall has struck summer maple;
It is time to move on.
