Bar laws differ in various states. In some, women alone are not permitted to sit at the bar in a cocktail lounge but must be served at a table either in the bar area or in the restaurant proper. Unescorted women should not seek to be seated in nightclubs although of course they may be part of a party which includes a man or men. This good rule is for their own protection as well as for the protection of the club. Women who are traveling may see such local entertainment safely with tour groups. A woman guest of a hotel which has a nightclub may always speak to the manager to see whether arrangements may be made for her to view the show unescorted, and such arrangements usually can be made.
