It took every ounce of self-control that Juan could muster not to drop to the floor and lick the bathroom doorhandle in front of the germophobic ninny who waived a wad of paper towels his direction and said, “You know, you really shouldn’t touch those things.”

One day Juan should point to the wad of paper towels and say, “What?  The last of the trees?”

grud watched as the light lit in Juan’s eyes… faded and then rekindled. She continued watching as Juan turned and lick the face of the other gentleman in the bathroom before muttering ‘oops, wrong door’.

Juan might be cheered up by Daniel Gardner’s new book, The Science of Fear, which addresses this very issue, among others, in a sane and elegant and humane way.  Juan will probably want to put a copy on reserve at the library.  Or he may just want to ask his friend Bronwyn if he can borrow her copy when she’s finished with it.

Sane and elegant and humane?  I’m not so sure about that.  I was thinking to call in Miss Jane.  But as for the rest, yes.
