Here on our first night in the new house, I quickly discovered that it apparently comes with free high-speed Internet, compliments of a mysterious new neighbor I know only as Gordon.
It’s funny because many places have passed laws that its illegal to “steal” someone else’s wireless ‘net connection. I have borrowed so many connections over the years that I intentionally leave mine open. If I didn’t want to share, I’d click the “enable security” button.
A dangerous game!!! Organised crime syndicates ALWAYS do the favour for you first, then come knocking on your door with a request for assistance at their bake sale.
Also, I thought your neighbour’s name was Joe!!! Or Oh Joe. Either way, not Gordon. Something weird is going on there (or maybe here!).
Having just moved from the country to the city, Darksteve, I am surrounded by new and mysterious neighbors. Gordon’s voice comes to me digitally through the air, and before I could fire up my own Internet service, served as my connection to Scrine.
Joe (or Oh Joe!, as he’s sometimes called) sounds to me to be more of an analog neighbor, I guess. If I modify the words definition only slightly, we end up with....
Analog: relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position or voltage, grunting or calling out of a name
