Waking up this morning to another vision of mid-packing chaos, I wondered again whether we were doing the right thing; five minutes later, I found proof of rodent intrusion into our living room at the exact same moment that Lloyd announced that an enormous cockroach had staggered in from the apartment-under-construction next door and died in our bathtub.
Having learned that prime space in Astoria would soon be vacated, the local vermin set up viewing times for your apartment.
You know, I hadn’t even considered that, but it’s true: with its proximity to restaurants, supermarkets, drycleaners and laundromats, Starbucks, the subway, the park and the river, this is a well-located apartment for hardworking, on-the-go vermin.
You can’t expect the trend of rat gentrification to ignore your little neighborhood forever. (OK I’m finally grossing myself out. Rats AND gentrification.)
