It should be too obvious to say out loud, but, sadly, it is not:  If someone offers you a piece of cake they made themselves, from scratch, and if your only response to them is that baking from scratch is a snobbish affectation, then YOU DO NOT DESERVE CAKE.

I’m with you on this one, Bake.  However, I tend to point out to them as witheringly as possible, that anyone with a well stocked kitchen who’s any good at cooking can make just about anything that tickles their fancy, it rarely takes very long and it’s almost always exponentially better than store-bought.  In addition, I go on, what is life really about?  Is it buying big-ass, oversweet Costco muffins so you can save 15 minutes the evening before when you could be making fresh blueberry muffins (Jordan Marsh recipe, of course) to what?  Watch Grey’s-fucking-anatomy or some such?  If sucking that glass teat is so important, then put a TV where you can see it from the kitchen.  Okay, so it’s a snobbish affection.  But it’s a snobbish affection that pays serious yummy dividends.

They deserve cake, just not for eating.

I was wondering if your comment would make it over, ‘mouse.  I saw it this morning in my mailbox, but not on the site.  Did you repost it, or did it find its way all on its own?
