If a guy offers to walk six miles in the middle of the night to give you a large hug and a kiss as one final romantic gesture before your long-term relationship is ended by a 700-mile distance, and expects nothing from you in return, you’d say yes, right?

Ahhh.  I know this is probably not the answer for which you’d hoped, but…it depends on the guy.  If it were you, 789, I’d say yes.  But if the guy in question were a cretin, a six-mile walk in the middle of the night won’t help.  (Sad to say, I’ve known a few cretins in my life.)

You, though, are far from cretinous.  :)

Well, that would be understandable, but we’ve been in a serious relationship for about a year and a half, and were best friends for a few years before that. I’ll assume that I’m in good standings if you believe that it is right to do so.

The proper answer is yes, of course! Especially if it’s uphill both ways in the snow.

I’m not a girl, but I know that a girl’s heart is complicated thing and she’s going through a lot.  That the two of you might not be on exactly the same page at the same time is almost a given.

I can understand that, Mr. ‘Mouse. Girls are perhaps the most complicated things that I’ve ever come into contact with, but the only reason that she was able to give me for why not was that she didn’t feel like it after an hour of me trying to understand, but that she’d really like to some day.

on the other hand: “she didn’t feel like it after an hour of me trying to understand”

i probably wouldn’t feel like after that either; how can she miss you if you don’t go away?

less is more. (i made that up.)

Well put, e.

I can never remember if the saying is “absence makes the heart go wander” or “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”  Definitely one of those.  Unless it’s not.

Ah, but the thing is that we’re still in a relationship. I haven’t broken up with her. The bit about “last romantic gesture” was in my mind, not hers.

We’re actually quite happy together to this day.
