What the hell kind of present do you get for someone turning forty?

- Exfolient. :-)
- An evening with excellent company and excellent drinks in a pub with excellent ambience. Taking over the best table in the place is imperative.
- A g.c. to a great bookstore, *with* an offer to go along.
- A blank book, beautiful pen, and instructions for a short writing assignment meant for the personal edification of the birthday person alone.

Heh. Exfolient. Heh.
All excellent ideas. Thank you.

daily decision dice might come in handy.

I have friends who have recently turned 40 and they would smack me about the head if I gave them exfolient.

Personally, I’d like a gift certificate for a parachute jump - or something equally “haven’t done that before”.

I agree with the pub in every way imaginable.

Gifts are about who the person is, not how old they are.

Depending on the company, it could be something that they would have liked at even on a previous birthday… tastes develop but some things about a person are timeless.

For instance, I never quite got over the joy I find in making mud pies.  (not that that joy could be wrapped and given as a gift, but you see my point, right?)
