...you download 238 messages from one of your mailing lists and they are all about the meaning of the word “uber”....and you are tempted to read them.

The sad thing is that I read this and thought ‘oh, that sounds interesting, I’d like to know more’.

Boredom or word nerdiness?  Perhaps an unhealthy mixture of both.

Yes, I think we would like to know more.  Please keep us informed, member number 14 who’s just posted their first Scrine sentence ever!

Standard sensitive welcome:  Welcome to Scrine!

Realistic insensitive welcome:  What in the world has taken you so long?

Heh, heh.  Yeah, skif.  I can’t believe it has taken you this long.  It’s been so long that I presumed you had Scrined (not commented, mind you, a proper Scrine sentence) before today.

Welcome to the House of Scrine.

After 238 messages I was left with feeling a little bit like the UN Security Council… no damn consensus on the word much less it’s usage.  Between the lot of us, we managed to strip it of any meaning at all. We’re good that way.

skif on 07/25/06 at 06:01 AM ::

Thanks for the welcome. Scrine itself, boot, e and mouse have done a lot in keeping my day sane. I mean me sane. No my day interesting. No no I mean keeping me from working. I mean.....hmm

me, e?  sane, me? working? non.

e on 07/25/06 at 04:49 PM ::

I’m not sure I like being held responsible for maintaining someone’s sanity.  Though, I think it’s a compliment, so I’ll take it and run with it.

[boot runs out of the room shouting ‘mine, mine’]

no, boot, we’re maintaining skif’s indolence.  we’re good at that.

Now, that I can do.  Just call me the Sloth Master™.

boot on 07/25/06 at 08:22 PM ::

I feel like lounging back on my hammock, sipping Muriel’s daiquiri, waving my hand around and mummering “indulge me” but my in tray is now a 30 ltr tub, my email count is 405 and raising and my office is open plan. Can’t hide anydamnwhere.

skif on 07/26/06 at 05:28 AM ::

Except here.  You can always hide here.

'mouse on 07/26/06 at 08:09 AM ::

Oh yes, here has some excellent hiding properties. Best of all, boot and e facilitate my self-indulgance.  What more could I ask for. Except maybe a 50 ltr tub, my other in tray is getting kinda full.

skif on 07/26/06 at 09:11 AM ::

Don’t underestimate the potential here. I myself routinely hide inside Scrine. There’s this page, of course. Later in the day, I scurry along into the blog or the forum. If all else fails, I go to the wiki and start making up shit writing helpful content.

pam on 07/26/06 at 10:27 AM ::

How odd. See the code in the last comment? In the “scrine live preview”, it translated into a strike-through. But now it’s just code-looking.

Edit: Pam, I edited your last comment.  The comment area is set to accept only what it considers “safe” html code.  For a strike-through, this means putting the entire word “strike” between the “little pointy arrowy what in the world are they called anyway” brackets.  Surely they have a name that isn’t necessarily math related.  ~ The Management

skif, what is it that we do, exactly, that gives you such cover? (boot, don’t look now, we’re doing it again; hang on, i’m getting backrground...)

fffllllwwwwwwwwwap

[boot throws her ‘blanket of secret nerdy-wordy enjoyment’ over e, skif and any other nearby scriners]

Do not fear, boot is here.

and i was just thinking that was nerd wordiness, or should have been…

speaking of which, who said “do something, do something to it, do something else to it”?  i was told it in art school, i think by Bettye Saar but i’m not sure, and i’ve always lived by it, but i forget who it was.  kinda like “less is more” which is variously attributed to multitudes (even though i vote for mies.)

i’m about to write to the word guy, whatsisname, but thought i’d ask here first.

e on 07/26/06 at 08:28 PM ::

Jasper Johns: “Take something, do something to it, do something else to it.” maybe?

ah, skif, thanks!  i was hoping it was johns.  where’d you get that?

e on 07/26/06 at 10:58 PM ::

3 or 4 different sites until I put the puzzle together, not one particular site I can point to sorry. Never heard of him so I hopped off and started reading during work… the things I do to get out of working. oh the hardship...reading scrine, haunting the net.

Oh, woe is skif.

Scrine: It’s A Drug.

boot on 07/26/06 at 11:41 PM ::

Ah. Not addiction, just indulging.

That’s what they all say.  To start with.
