I asked Keith to look up his music list to see what he played in the effort to keep himself and Bakerina awake via Scrinecast in the final hours, and it got me thinking a little group input could likely result in a darn good playlist for late nights and sleepy Monday mornings.
In no particular order, I’ll kick off the list with a few that work for me:
- Roll Over Beethoven, Chuck Berry
- Iko Iko, Dr. John
- Good Lovin’, The Rascals
- Surfin Safari, The Beach Boys
- Time, Pink Floyd (at least the beginning)
- Great Balls of Fire, Jerry Lee Lewis
A few more:
Wang Dang Doodle, Koko Taylor
Rock Me Right, Susan Tedeschi
What You See is What You Get, Tina Turner
d’oh. I just realized I can drag these into my own local playlist as I think about them (or y’all suggest them, if you ever do)
- I Love Rock N Roll, Joan Jett
- Satisfaction, Devo
- Rock Lobster, B52s
- Love Shack, B52s
- Baby Likes to Rock It, Tractors
I’ll bite… I’ll bite hard, in fact.
I second the majority of yours, ‘mouse (although I usually skip through the first two minutes of Time to avoid all of that jarring business), and raise you:
Penguins, Lyle Lovett
Tired Of My Tears, Susan Tedeschi
Wild Nights, Van Morrison
Step Into My Office Baby, Belle & Sebastian
Soul Man, Sam & Dave
Last Night, The Strokes
I’m The Man Who Loves You, Wilco

Heartbreaker, Pat Benatar
What Is Hip?, Tower of Power
Here Today, Beach Boys
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt, We Are Scientists
Storm In A Teacup, The Iveys
Both Sides Of The Gun, Ben Harper
I’ll quit there, before I put anyone to sleep just with my list…
Yeah! Thanks. I’ve got about 2/3 of those and they’ve joined my “wide awake” playlist. A couple are missing rather inexplicably and a few I’d hardly heard of but found to add.
Okay, people, what else gets your eyes open?
Carrot, I suspect that The Big Chill sound track gets heavy rotation at your place, as it does at mine.
A few more occur to me (dusting off my 80’s newwave collection):
Video Killed the Radio Star, The Buggles
Rock and Roll High School, The Ramones
Gidget Goes to Hell, Suburban Lawns
Ca Plane Por Moi, Plastic Bertrand
My Sharona, the Knack
One Way or Another, Blondie
Okay, I’ll bite. I’ve been wanting to bite all day.

I could go on, but I just realized that Beer O’Clock was over half an hour ago…
Apologies to everyone who’s already seen it, but bakerina’s list reminded me to remind the world that Christopher Walken is a genius. Proof here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hDGAvqwgdk
And ‘mouse, yep. Guilty as charged, although my tastes were already heading in that direction before I even saw the movie…
Plus,
A Little Less Conversation, Elvis Presley vs JXL
and, as a companion to Radio Radio
Television Television, Ok Go
an old jazz song called ‘Fine Fat Daddy Please Don’t Reduce’, alice washington i believe…
