A different way of including guest scriners - published authors - with the idea in mind that multiple sentences might need to be shown.

I could always implement something like this using categories, but I’ve resisted using categories so far, mostly because I don’t want to add another step to people’s posting routine.

My vote is for the status quo.  The one-period rule stays in effect but enforcement remains lax.  Sure we miss a few great items, but there’s always scrineblog if more detail is required.

i think periods are sometimes without merit, when the post itself at least sounds like one sentence.

I agree with ‘mouse. Part of Scrine’s charm is the one-sentence rule. It’s like the sonnet - there’s a form to be followed, but within that, you can find a wealth of creative freedom.

Maybe a good Guest Scriner flag would be the ability to link to an Amazon page, especially if the quote is from a book that the quoter really liked.

I hadn’t thought of the ability to link a quote with an Amazon page, and will give it some thought.  One of the “problems” with adding things like this is the additional steps required of people to post to Scrine.  But maybe people are willing to take them, if I do what I can to make them as simple as possible.

As far as Amazon is concerned, I have taken steps to integrate it with Scrine, but have yet to figure out a smooth way to make it happen.  An Amazon associate’s account has already been set up, and it’s just a matter of time before people are able to log into it to add Amazon items to their posts, sales of which (if clicked to through Scrine) would benefit the site.

This was recently implemented in the Scrinecast.  Most of the album links, which now automatically appear on the main page of Scrine when the music is playing, take a person directly to Amazon.  Should they happen to make a purchase, Scrine will receive a small percentage of the sale.  Of course, not many people are going to be buying music that way.  As a matter of fact, from what I can tell, not many people actually listen to the music when I do play it.

But it’s a start and a good experiment.

I’d like to be able to add a link into the url.  I can imagine this is impossible (a restriction of the system), but it would be nice to be able to say “Guest Scriner: Me” and have the ‘Me’ part be a link to something about the guest scriner.  I’ve gotten around it a couple of times by whacking the link in the ‘inspired by’.

Maybe that’s it?  Have another option (merely an option) like ‘inspired by’ but call it ‘today’s guest scriner is.....’ and that would also allow you to add a link if you were so inclined.

The system is restrictive about what can go into the title area, so I have no control over that one.

I’ll consider the “guest scriner” option you suggested.  The initial drawback that pops into my head concerns clutter.  I don’t like the idea of getting the control panel area too cluttered with options and entry fields.  It seems to me that this would begin to take away from the simplicity behind Scrine, which I think, is one of its charms.

There may be a way afterall to add a link into the title, linking that particular entry with something off-site.  I’d have to come up with some way to make those titles stand out, however, otherwise the link would simply be invisible to everyone.

I should rethink the guest scriner/link to amazon idea.  That would could be set up, I believe, to work fairly smoothly, and so that the link attaches somehow to Scrine’s amazon account.  Hmmmmm
