The time has come, I think, for Scriners to be able to share links of interest with the rest of the Scriners, and for those links to somehow find a permanent home here at Scrine, so that we can turn here for both fun and reference.

The idea that I’ve decided to use involves the entering of links into categories, and this is where I could use your help.

What would be some good link categories for us to use?  When entering your links, you would have the option of choosing which category to place the link in, or if needed, be able to place the link in multiple categories.

I’ll start us off with “Dictionaries”

Categories could end up being nested, if that looks like it would work better.

I will post the “Submit a Link” button on Scrine shortly.  I think with a working example, this will make more sense.

Immediate categories that come to mind:

ducks
giants
mangoes
words

I’ll think up some more.  Trust me.

Hold on now, before you get all crazy here, try to keep in mind that these are categories for OTHER SITES that we might come across on our web travels.  Sites that we might want to tuck away and be able to share with others.

Not saying that some of those category ideas won’t work....

Oh, that’s not nearly enough fun.

I shall give it further and more serious consideration.

There is definitely a problem here, but it may be with only certain forum skins.  This is a test of the “Default” skin.

No problems at my end (though everything in forum looks very grey).

My forum posts go through, but kick up an error message afterwards, keeping me from returning to the forum index page.

You can select a different forum look by selecting something from the list at the bottom of the page.  These are all default looks that came with the new upgrade.  I haven’t had time to personalize it yet.

Hmmm… perhaps if other scriners use del.icio.us (under aliases they are willing to admit to) you could create a scine account and we (as your network) could share relevant links that way (it’d certainly stop a lot of doubling up).

And then you can output the beautiful tag cloud of words somewhere on scrine.

I find, that with the various bookmarking I’ve done (eg. browser favourites/bookmarks), del.icio.us, shadows, stumbleupon (which I use more as a blog than a bookmarking/social bookmarking tool) that my categories grew as the link collection grew.

Writing related categories would definitely be a start - as would food related categories.

I dunno… the flu is killing my brain.

But (off on a tangent) even the flu was not enough to keep me from saying “WOOOOOO HOOOOO” in cheerful tones when I received e’s email with her happy news.  My volume was sufficient to have those around me ask what I was cheering about.  So I shared.

grud girl.

I now see links! Go away for 12 hours or so and scrine has yet again changed.

I like.

i do sorely miss the ‘etcetera’ category from a site i used to visit (which will remain unnamed for posterities sake).

also like a local radio dj’s category of ‘morons in the news’.
